How To Stay Fit During Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic

With the prospect of gyms closing and more time spent at home self-isolating, you may be worrying about how to stay fit during coronavirus outbreak. It is very easy to feel overwhelmed and anxious and a little scared during times like these.

We need self-care and exercise now more than ever, for both our physical and mental health. Physical fitness is essential to our overall health and well-being and it is crucial to developing individual resilience during a time of national health crisis.

So now is the time to start thinking of alternative ways to keep fit and active during self-isolation to prevent people from feeling depresses lonely and isolated.

Is it still safe to use the gym?

With high numbers of people passing through the doors and sharing equipment, gyms are a danger zone when it comes to virus spreading. Plus viruses love warm, indoor settings which often involve close contact with lots of people.

Yet being stuck at home training alone can be demotivating and not a lot of fun, particularly as so many of us have developed our workout regimes around visiting the gym.

What’s the answer?

Swap your gym workout to an outdoor workout

Exercise is possibly the best thing we can do right now, it supports the immune system and it’s a great stress reliver, plus exercising outside is rejuvenating for your mind and soul. Especially as spring and summer approaches we can start to enjoy some sunshine – and that all important Vitamin D boost.

When we exercise our body releases endorphins which will help you escape the stress and anxiety that seem to be everywhere right now… And since viruses don’t survive as well outside, you can limit any risk of catching a virus by keeping your distance and avoiding crowds. If you are training with a friend or a PT, stay safe by always standing 6 feet apart and always washing your hands before and after your workout.
